TERM 2
Since "Friends" is my favorite TV show, I thought it was only fitting that I photo-shopped myself onto one of the characters for our "Pretend You Were There" project. I reused the picture of myself that I had taken for the brochure project. I used the lasso tool to crop my face out of the picture of me, then I used the free transform tool to reposition my face. I had to edit my skin, by brightening it and turning the contrast up. At first, I put my face on Rachel, the character all the way to the right; but since our skin colors didn't match up, I thought it might be easier to put myself onto Phoebe, the middle girl, instead. I erased my ears, and I eared small details, including some of my hair, to make sure our faces were the same size and shape.

For out first album cover, I decided to recreate an album for Beyoncé's hit single, "Halo." I really like this song, and I thought it would be cool to be able to edit her face. I thought that a well-edited self portrait of Beyoncé would be the best way to portray this song. I used the filter "paint daubs" from the filter gallery to make this kind of blurred, poster look. Then, I made the background a reddish-maroon color, and rewrote her name in a similar color, but a few shades lighter. I highlighted her face, contoured it a little, added a few highlights in her hair, and added eyeliner on her eyes. I also colored her nails a darker, neutral color, to match her shirt, the dark highlights of her hair, and her eyes/eyeliner. For the back cover, I colored the background the same color as her name on the front page. I made the lyrics white, so they'd really pop, as well as my "ES," which is my copyright label. I also added her signature on the bottom, to really personalize the album.

I was assigned to recreate an album cover for Jeff Buckley's version of "Hallelujah." Since we had to have a least 10 different images in our final design, I thought about what came to mind when thinking about the song "Hallelujah." I pictured smoke, a moon, a city at night, water, shadows, and many other dark and spooky things. I first started off with a cityscape of New York City. I then added another cityscape of NYC, including the water, but this one had more blue features, and matched the theme more. So then I erased the bottom of my first cityscape, which allowed the water from the second image to show through, making it look like only one image. I then started to add smaller features, such as a full moon. Since the moon stood out too much from the background and the sky, using an imported cloud brush, I was able to add a few clouds over the bottom of the moon and around it, making it look like the background of the sky in the original image. I added a dolphin in the water, making it more transparent. I also added a cross sitting on one of the tops of the buildings, as well as a cloud of smoke, as if a a building was on fire. This reveals the dark aspect of the song, which reminded me of smoke, flames, and anger. I added two white doves, flying above the dark city, which reminded me of the hint of endless love in the song, and how love will overcome all obstacles. Also, in the top left corner, I two added angel wings, that are very transparent, and show the presence of God in the song. The second image is the back cover of the album, showing the lyrics, and the copyright. I decided to make the back very bright, and heavenly, or almost hopeful. Since the front was dark, gloomy, and hellish, I thought should make the back hopeful, and heavenly.

Out of my two album covers, I decided to make a tee-shirt portraying the song "Halo" by Beyoncé- my first album cover. After really looking into this album cover, I realized that the whole song was basically talking about loyalty, and how much it means to be loyal, trustworthy, and honest in a relationship. At first, I wasn't sure how to portray honesty or loyalty, then I realized that I could include a dog in my design; because what's more loyal than a dog? So I edited "The Black Dog" logo, by coloring the originally red collar purple, blurring around the collar, erasing the background color, and adding the "poster edges" filter to the image. All of these different aspects really made the logo my own, which portrayed the meaning behind my album cover of Beyoncé's song, "Halo."
